Consulting Services

“Why should you want to collect art? In one word: Pleasure.”

Every collection is unique and should bring nothing but pleasure to its owner.

A good collection is one that, in addition to bringing pleasure, can maintain or increase its value over time.

An art advisor’s role is to:

  • Help you clarify your thinking

  • Point out opportunities or potential problems

  • Work with you to build the best collection that your physical space and your budget will permit

I provide valuable services to help
you avoid costly mistakes:

  • Developing a collecting strategy

  • Researching the provenance and market history of proposed acquisitions

  • Providing advice on necessary conservation

I have two basic rules for collecting, no matter what your area of interest:

Number 1

If you don’t like a work of art, it’s not a good deal, no matter how cheap the painting or how famous the artist.

You should not buy a work of art if it will not make you happy every time you see it hanging in your home.

Number 2

It is better to have the best work that a lesser-known artist ever did than a mediocre work by someone more famous.

The quality of a work of art, not who made it, should be the deciding factor when making a purchase.

You’ll take more pleasure in the piece, and great works, no matter who painted them, will hold or increase in value more than mediocre works.

I look forward to discussing your ideas for a collection with you.
